CUTPL Board Minutes August 16, 2011

Time: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Place: Library Large Meeting Room

Members: Joan Bess, Joyce Greeson, Al Nyby, Melanie Robertson, Carol Saft, Peg Schuldt, Jim Hahn, presiding

Report from the Antiquarian & Historical Society: Jim Sawhook

Rachel Meade will be replacing Chris Langstrom as Museum Director, hours to be set later

an article which appeared online on Inside Indiana Business from the National Endowment for the Humanities allocating $300,000 for the digitalization of Indiana newspapers was presented

the microfilms of the Culver Citizen are being cataloged: patrons may request them when needed

Jeff Kenney will be presenting the history of the local Ice House August 27 at 10:00 am at the Lion Club's Depot

Report of the Digitalization Committee: Melanie

Andrew Baker presented a power point on the items of concern while digitalizing

this presentation is available: ask at the main circulation desk

this presentation will be a big help when working with Jeff Kenny on 8-23 at 4:30 pm

Secretary Report: Melanie Robertson

corrections for the minutes of 7-15-11: Finance 3rd bullet "been sought"; $9500 not 95,000 under thank you "thrift"

motion to accept the minutes with corrections made by Joan and seconded by Joyce

Treasurer's Report: Al Nyby

Power Point presented

expenses are close to budget

Misc Repairs show unexpected payment for carpet cleaning and the purchase of a time clock and computer part

carpet cleaning will be an annual expense

Finance Committee Report: Al

met 8-18-11

final State Board of Accounts audit went very well; the Board, the Director and staff are to be congratulated

CUTPL 2012 Budget will ask for an increase of 2.8 %; items were discussed comparison of 2011- $430,000 vs 20012 -$440,000

2012 CUTPL Budget will be published in the Culver Citizen 8-18 and 8-25

(Marshall) Co Council will meet 9-12-11 to give their non-binding review of our 2012 budget

the 9-20 board meeting will be opened to the public to respond to the proposed budget

motion to change the October board meeting to the 11th made by Joyce and seconded by Peg

Director's Report: Colleen McCarty

a very successful Summer reading program for children, teens and adults has ended

Ali will be attending the Children and Youth Division of the Indiana Library Federation (8-29-11) to present a program about CUTPL's successful Reading Club at Culver Community High School

Ali will be continuing this program in September and will be presenting her state presentation at the September 20th Board meeting

Ali received a certificate of appreciation from the Culver Boys and Girls Club for the Thursday programs she held this summer

Ross's Construction Co will begin the building masonry repairs August 22-29th

R.JNoel is leaving to continue schooling

we are currently taking applications for the following positions: cataloger, youth services clerk, circulation clerk, computer lab clerk and page

Park Board: Peg Schuldt – no report

Unfinished Business:

a patron's note to the staff was put in Board member mailboxes

discussion concerning a drive up drop off box: Jim and Alfred will continue researching this possibility

New Business

the handicap parking place is now available
