October 16th Board Meeting

CULVER UNION TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY

Board Meeting October 16, 2012

Time: 7:00 pm – 8:15

Place: Library Large Meeting Room

Members: Joan Bess, Joyce Greeson, Jim Hahn, Al Nyby, Melanie Robertson, Carol Saft, Peg Schuldt

Attendance: all present

Report from the Antiquarian & Historical Society: none

Board member Carol Saft mentioned the upcoming Moonlight Paddle and Bonfire

On Lake Maxinkuckee will be 10-28-12 starting at 7:00 pm.

Secretary Report: Melanie Robertson

motion to accept as read by Joan and seconded by Peg

Treasurer’s Report: Al Nyby

accounts are in close alignment with the budget

motion to accept the report was made by Melanie and seconded by Joan

Finance Committee Report:

Al, did not meet

2013 Budget:

has been approved at the county level, advertising has been done, so signatures from Board members are needed tonight

motion to accept the proposed budget was made by Joyce and seconded by Joan

Policy Committee: Colleen

adding to Sec 17 concerning personnel volunteering

adding a clause on the probationary period of new employees

progressive discipline removed from Sec 16 and made to stand alone in a separate section

a motion to create a separate sub-heading was made by Carol and seconded by Peg

MSC

Grievance procedures are presently under general personnel policies and we are suggesting

separate section be created; procedures clarified into a step-by-step process

a motion to accept the updated policy as presented was made by Melanie and seconded by Joan

Director’s Report: Colleen McCarty

Long Term Goals review - Creating Young Readers

Children’s librarian to join the Marshall Co Reading Council and Head Start

Pre-school materials to be kept fresh and appealing

Reaching out into the community

Hoosier START 457b deferred compensation plan for local gov’t. agencies will be offered to ALL employees

Friends of the Library Week Oct. 22-27: staff will hold luncheon for our Friends members, Trustees are invited; $1/bag book sale scheduled for Oct. 26 and 27; thank you, Friends for the great scarecrow they created for Town contest

High School book club has started, facilitated by Ali Gaskill, 22 girls are participating.

Park Board: Peg Schuldt

Discussion of new fishing pier

Program director to be appointed after the end of 2012

Unfinished Business:

Kevin Berger brought a copy of the new Town ordinance about Knox boxes.

Keys for the Knox boxes will be held by the fire department or EMS

Costs range from $400 to $1000

CUTPL will probably need two (one per floor)

CUTPL board will discuss next month
