March 19th Board Meeting


Board Meeting March 19, 2013

Time: 7:00 pm –7:45 Place: Library Large Meeting Room

Members: Joan Bess, Jim Hahn, Al Nyby, Rhonda Reinhold, Melanie Robertson, Carol Saft

Report from the Antiquarian & Historical Society: Carol Saft

attention to the outstanding Warner Williams’ display

also, the Endangered Heritage display on loan from the Indiana State Collection

Secretary Report: Melanie Robertson

the date, February 20, 2013, was corrected to read February 19, 2013 for the board minutes

motion to accept the corrected minutes was made by Joan and seconded by Rhonda


Treasurer’s Report: Al Nyby

PowerPoint presentation was made: accounts are on target with the budget

motion to accept the report was made by Melanie and seconded by Joan


Finance Committee Report: Al and Colleen

met on 3-14-13

a free audit of our lighting fixtures will be done soon by Energy Indiana; we have been paying about 1.80 per sq. ft., which is a little over the average for commercial building

presently we are contracted with McGrath of Knox for our heating and air conditioning; we will renew for 2013

staff member is being trained to cover financial duties in the absence of our financial manager; this was needed when he was called away for a week on personal business recently

Director’s Report: Colleen McCarty

we have resumed publication of the Maxinkuckee Reed, our quarterly newsletter, the Spring issue is available in print and online, the next edition will be June 1; Laura Jones is the new editor

Friends of the Library recently purchased a vacuum cleaner for CUTPL; they also had a successful book sale at the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party

the Board is asked to review the new contact info for CUTPL Board members for any possible corrections

the library has a "New Item Request form" for patron use

staff meetings are regularly scheduled on last Thursday of the month at 8:00 am; recently we have had staff demonstrations on the use of INSPIRE, a state-wide subscription to several databases which is available to patrons

attention to the new and frequently updated displays throughout the library

3-28-13 The Importance of Song Birds Rehabilitation, attended by approx. 30; quite a few youngsters were present

Healthy Snacks for after school, developed by Leadership Marshall County members Jerry Kinsella and Sam Bramfeld; funding provided by donations to the Children’s Dept. Gift Fund; names of companies and individual donors will be displayed on a banner in the Youth Room.

#1 DVD: Hugo

#1 Children’s DVDs: Smurfs and Puss and Boots

#1 Youth Books: Hunger Games (YA) and Ice Cream Hotel (Children’s by local author, Jack Johnston)

attended the lecture at Norte Dame for The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind our Marshall County 2013 One Book, One Town read

Unfinished Business

a motion to accept the bid for the east window shades was made by Alfred and seconded by Melanie


New Business

a reminder that CUTPL’s centennial anniversary will be in 2015 and there is a need to begin seriously thinking of activities

book discussion with Laura Jones for The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind was attended by eight here on Saturday March the 30th
