Regular Board Meeting July 15, 2014

Time: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Place: Library Large Meeting Room

Members: Karen Boland, Bill Cleavenger, Tom Curtis, Al Nyby, Melanie Robertson, Rhonda Reinhold

Agenda approval: added two bids on the termite damage in the Carnegie Room under Unfinished Business and under New Business the phone calls from Ken Lukenbill, atty.

moved to accept by Rhonda and seconded by Tom

Treasurer’s Report: Colleen

Colleen presented the Treasurer’s Report slides which Alfred prepared and sent to us

motion to accept the June Register of Claims was made by Tom and seconded by Rhonda


Finance Committee Report: none

Policy Committee: none

Director’s Report: Colleen McCarty

Jim Faulkner and I met with the DLGF on July 9, 2014 to review the proposed 2015 budget; dates to remember: 8-19-14 is the Public Hearing, 9-8-14 County Council review

and on 9-16 the CUTPL Board will adopt

Laura’s last day will be 7-22 and Dana Thomas will begin fulltime position as Reference/Adult Services Manager on 7-30

STATS: book circulation for June was 3,016, the second highest since we began using Evergreen ILS in November 2009; highlighted was the popularity of the summer reading programs, with compliments for the varied children’s programs

7-30-2014 a Game Truck will be here, children 18 and under are invited from 2-4:00

Centennial Committee meets every other Wednesday; plans continue with the latest addition of an Andrew Carnegie impersonator who will speak about Andrew Carnegie and his gift to public libraries

definitions for computer adult sessions, children’s usage, and wireless usage in the STATS;

Server upgrade will begin soon

Park Board: Rhonda Reinhold

new superintendent still in transition with hours, policies

summer hours are 11:00 am to 8:00 pm in summer months

drowning of 27 year old is being investigated

discussion on alcohol usage at the park, possible solutions

Unfinished Business:

2 bids to repair the termite damage in the Carnegie; Dave McCarty volunteered to

make the repairs at no cost to the library for his labor, if materials are provided

move by Rhonda to accept Dave’s offer to make the repairs at no cost to the library for his labor, with supplies provided by CUTPL

seconded by Tom


Culver Redevelopment Commission TIF funds Notice discussed, at this time, CUTPL probably cannot receive moneys from this fund

New Business:

contact call from Ken Lukenbill on the potential conflict of interest, due to fact that Ken’s son Adam

Lukenbill has been asked to be the Antiquarian & Historical Society’s attorney; this discussed because of AHS’s previous affiliation with CUTPL

Tom moved to retain Ken as the board’s attorney, with Adam representing the Antiquarians

Bill seconded


Bill presented information on material and labor costs on the new addition to CUTPL, this to be used to estimate costs of maintaining the building
