Regular Board Meeting May 20, 2014

Time: 7:00 pm – 8:10 pm

motion to accept the April Register of Claims made by Bill and seconded by Tom

motion to correct February’s register of claims due to a double entry made by Tom and seconded by Karen (the claim was only paid once)

on May 22 Bill and Al met with Marshall County Auditor Penny Lukenbill about more monies in the future; likelihood poor at this time; new jail limits future unexpected tax money for us

meeting with Jeff Kutch and Lyn Hanley from Culver Academies to share possible ideas for facilities upgrades and/or existing area improvements, with the formulation of a facilities inventory checklist

At Lyn Hanley’s suggestion, Colleen has applied to the Culver Keepers Senior project for the upgrade of the termite-damaged trim in Carnegie room, awaiting response

reviewing the 2013 Indiana State Library’s reports

planning ahead for the 2015 budget

will be returning to NIPSCO as our gas supplier soon

Long Range Plan Assessment Reports: Public Relation notices well displayed,

Training of staff, software, etc.; Tech Services have detailed system for updates

Summer Reading will begin June 2; prizes for adults donated by local businesses and we thank them for their support:

Café Max, Civvies, Culver Coffee Co, Culver Park & Rec Dept., Culver Wings, Dairy Barn/BP Gas Station, Diva, Evil Czech Brewery, Fisher & Co, Friends of the Library, Michelle’s Headquarters, Original Root Beer Stand, Osborn’s Minimart/Subway, Osborn Seed

Children’s and Adult SRP ice cream kickoff from 2-3:00, with local author Jack Johnston of Ice Cream Hotel read his book

Children’s theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read"

YA‘s theme: "Spark A Reaction"

Adult’s theme: "Literary Elements"

STATS April 2013 vs April 2014

an increase of 241 books circulated; 335 more visitors

CD’s circ was down; magazines circ was up; Overdrive now averaging 140-150 circs per month

The Centennial Committee will meet 5-28-14 at 10:00 am in the Carnegie Room

Park Board: Rhonda Reinhold (Colleen)

discussion is under way to partner CUTPL with a program called a Story Walk; pages of children’s books would be posted in the park; adults can read with the children

this program in Hendricks Co, IN

a large table is available from the Town Hall, if the library wants it; the board declined the offer because of the unusual size

our meeting room policy was reviewed because of an outside source attempting to change an existing reservation on their own
