May 19 Board Meeting


Regular Board Meeting May 19, 2015

Time: 6:00 pm – 6:55 pm

Place: Library Large Meeting Room

Members: Karen Boland, Bill Cleavenger, Tom Curtis, Paul Liette, Melanie Robertson, Rhonda Reinhold Attendance: Bill, absent

Public comment: by David McCarty

He encouraged and thanked the present Board for their frugal spending which will be of great value for future boards and taxpayers. Difficult spending decisions have had to be made and if his figures are correct, $16,000.00 is presently the monthly payment for CUTPL’s outstanding bond, which will be paid off in 2022. Stay the course was his thankful comment.

Both Rhonda and Melanie responded with similar observations and thank David for his comments.

IN the Public Trust excerpt – review pp 65-76 "Library Board Meetings"

duties of a Fundraising Committee, 3 members so far from CUTPL Board of Directors

Committee recommends local high school students serve as (non-voting) student advisors on the CUTPL Board of Directors rather than serving on the Fundraising Committee

motion to change the makeup of the existing Fundraising Committee membership (removal of high school students) was made by Tom and seconded Paul


motion to have students from the public high school and from CMA as non-voting advisors to the CUTPL Board of Directors was made by Rhonda and seconded by Karen


Patron Behavior Policy

the motion to accept the suggested changes to the existing policy was made by Tom

and seconded by Karen


Director’s Report: Colleen McCarty

STATS presented for the month, all areas showed an increase over 2014

the IN State workshop for Board, staff and other librarians went well today, and attendance was good

Board member’s Centennial shirts are here for pick up, please make your personal check out to "Suzi- Q’s Embroidery."

McGrath Refrigeration was here to replace a chiller compressor and will be back on a really hot day to

evaluate the system and replenish coolant

the eaves and exterior windows have been done by Mr. Pitera and the inside windows will be done soon

Doty will power wash Carnegie steps and retaining wall

the casings around the Carnegie windows are in bad condition and really need to be redone soon

Osborn Construction and Design will be here soon to install LED lighting

the invitations have been sent out for the June 6th Centennial Celebration; the agenda for the

day was reviewed

the beautiful library quilt will be displayed at the birthday celebration

June 1 will the Ice Cream Social to kick off the Summer Reading for all departments; the Friends of the

Library will supply the ice cream and fixings

The Friends have put beautiful geraniums in the Court Yard planters

Park Board: Rhonda Reinhold

pier realignment is not finished, but it is being addressed

Unfinished Business:

it was suggested that a stove for staff and public use to be located in the large meeting room, it was tabled until next meeting
