The Chautaqua Hotel & Tabernacle

Above: The Chautaqua Hotel & Tabernacle built by H.H. Culver, as seen in 1895. The Culver Chautaqua Assembly was Culver's experimental venture which preceded the creation of the Academy. Both structures were initially used as early Academy facilities before the Tabernacle (which had been used, among other things, as a gymnasium) burned. The hotel building was converted into Main Barracks.

Culver Estate Culver Estate Library

The Culver Estate, home of H.H. Culver, founder of the Academy, built in the 1880s. The house, of course, still sits along East Shore Drive, just south of the Academy's boathouse. These shots of it are from 1905. The right shot is of the home's library.
