The Town of Hibbard Thanks to Bob Albert, area train enthusiast and longtime Hibbard resident, we are able to offer a look at the history of the town of Hibbard, Indiana, just a few miles north and east of Culver along the east-west (Nickel Plate) railroad tracks that also run through the small town of Burr Oak on today's State Road 17. Hibbard is located almost due east of Burr Oak down the tracks (see map) or at the Junction of today's 15B and Redwood Roads in Marshall County. As was the case with many towns that grew up to a large extent as a result of the railroad, Hibbard in the earlier part of the 20th century was a much more bustling town, with its own school, post office, industry, and active population, all attributes that slowly faded along with the railroad. Many thanks to Bob Albert for sharing his photos and knowledge of Hibbard's past and making this portion of the site possible. |
