Luring the ending days of World War
Two, the 34th Infantry Division,
in which I served, was in the city of Biella Italy .
When victory in nEurope finally came
the church bells rang continiously for
long periods of time, from every hamlet,
every town, every city.
When victory over the Japanese, VJ day,
came we were also in northern Italy at
a town called Udine near the Yugoslavia
border. Once again the bells pealed for
very long periods of time.
The following poem was written to all
the men who served, living and. dead, at
that particular time in history.
Bless them all! They were a wonderful
group of men, I feel deep in my heart
that they were among the finest this
country has ever produced.
